Another character from "The Forgotten Fleet." My focuse in this image was the play of negative space in the form of the shadows caused by the harsh lighting.

I absolutely lov the shading in this work, I do not really like anime pics. but this more realistic style gives me the exrta touch I'm looking for.

Very very nice.

Maybe one tip I can give you, always mix black paint with a bit of colour, otherwise It totally flattens the shaded parts. This didn't really happen in your pic but I can see in the background you used only black there.

Not too fond of the run-of-the-mill Japanese style either, since non-Japanese often try to reproduce it to ill effect. I jump back into it once in a while, but those are rather rare occasions.

I used some really dark blues, expecting some ambient lighting from the surrounding displays to slightly illuminate those shadows; if you have an LCD monitor (which I use), it would be really obvious, but I know that things are much, much more different when shown on a CRT. I hate that *groan*

yup, I didn't buy an LCD-monitor yet, because it is still not good with colors.

CRT's gave me headaches after a while, so yeah...it was either my health and sanity or poor color viewing =/
